At Math Corps, we require our students to write journals, answering prompts set by our staff. Each and every entry is read and commented on by our Deans and Grade Supervisors, and returned to our students. It’s one of the many ways we get to know our kids over the course of the camp. In our offices at Wayne State we have nearly 30 years worth of student journals stored. It’s a treasure trove filled with the voices of Detroit’s children.
Below is a journal from a high school student from our 2021 camp in Detroit.
